EL NINO AND RATS DESTROY CROPS IN THE PHILIPPINES

County Farm Bureau in the Philippines reported in early February that the phenomenon of El Niño is affecting a lot of crops in the country, including bananas and vegetables. Add to this the problems of drought and rodents that were recently experienced, we could be talking about a cumulative loss of about USD 21 million.

The drought problem has been jointly attended by the provincial government and the Department of Agriculture Region 12. Its main action was cloud seeding, which resulted in scattered showers. Moreover, there has been an anti-rat campaign, rodenticides supplying farmers in the towns of Kabacan, Libungan, Magpet, President Roxas and Kidapawan City.
