The Spanish conquerors loved the fruit but had difficulty pronouncing its name so they changed the word of Aztec origin (¨Ahuacatl¨) for an easy word to pronounce: ¨Aguacate¨, which eventually became ¨Avocado¨ in English.The first time the name of avocado was mentioned in the English language was by Sir Henry Sloane in 1696.
